The British Boxing Awards has revealed its shortlist ahead of the inaugural ceremony, taking place in London on Friday 8 November.
The star-studded event, in association with Mail Sport, will celebrate the people who have achieved success in the sport and the organisations contributing to its growth.
It is the first time that all levels of British boxing will be recognised at one flagship event and will shine a light on grassroots greatness, those involved in the sport outside of the ring, as well as national and international boxing champions.
The glittering ceremony will be hosted by Olympic gold medalist and women’s boxing great Nicola Adams OBE.
Nominees announced on today’s shortlist include boxing champions Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Ukrainian boxing hero Oleksandr Usyk. Nick Ball, who is set to defend his WBA belt against Ronny Rios in Liverpool in October, is also in the running for British Boxer of the Year.
Katie Taylor, who has been the undisputed and lineal world lightweight champion since 2019, and the undisputed and lineal world super lightway champion since 2023, is shortlisted for Women’s Boxer of the Year. Taylor is nominated alongside Chantelle Cameron, Savannah Marshall and Olympic bronze medalist Cindy Ngamba.
Former boxing greats including Frank Bruno, Lennox Lewis and Ricky Hatton are also on the 2024 shortlist for their work to promote access to the sport at grassroots level.
Meanwhile, individuals involved in promoting the growth of British boxing around the world have also made the shortlist. Matchroom Chairman and Founder Eddie Hearn, Queensberry Promotions chief Frank Warren, and Boxxer‘s Ben Shalom are all recognised for their work in the industry.
Grassroots and boxing-inspired charitable organisations including BT Sport Boxing Community Programme, Grassroots Amatuer Boxing Lottery (GRAB), Boxing Futures and the Matchroom Charitable Foundation are also in the running for accolades.
Global brands including Adidas, Misfits Boxing, Applied Nutrition, Lonsdale, Sting Sports, Bet365 and Sky Sports are amongst those nominated for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to supporting the growth of boxing and promoting accessibility to the sport.
2024 British Boxing Awards host Nicola Adams said:
“This is an incredible shortlist. The British Boxing Awards is shining a light on the people and organisations contributing to the phenomenal growth of the sport. Boxing champions, both in and out of the ring, will be recognised.
“This is a major first for the sport in the UK and I am incredibly excited to be hosting this event. It is going to be a special night. Good luck to all of the nominees.”
The shortlist is now live at www.britishboxingawards.com
Boxing fans can vote for their winners until Friday 11 October.
